Summary of the REFINEMENT project. Presents the aim, objectives and expected results of the project funded under EU European Union Seventh Framework Programme (FP7/2007-2013). Three of the toolkits being developed are briefly described.

Two training courses on ESMS/DESDE coding were took place between 29 November and 2 December. The first in Verona, Italy and the second in Helsinki, Finland. The ESMS/DESDE training course is described as part of Work Package 6 of REFINEMENT project "Mapping Services for Mental Health Care", and is intended at helping participants to get acquainted with the instrument in order to facilitate the tasks of gathering and coding services. It is divided into a theoretical part of introduction to ESMS and evolution to DESDE, an extensive description of units of analysis, target population, types of care and final codes, and a practical part of guided cases and exercises that end with a reliability study.
